Origin of Time

The Age of Mystery

Archaeological studies have shown that a civilisation predating mankind existed even since the first age, buildings constructed of alloyed metal and specially mixed stone containing objects and devices far more advanced than those used by the population at the time. What is perplexing is that despite the structures and objects remaining, no skeletal remains of creatures, sentient or otherwise have been discovered. To the present day, no one has any idea where the previous inhabitants went to. Many of the discoveries found in these advanced ruins helped pave the way for the second and third ages of a principle known as Metascience.

Some theorise that whatever caused the disappearance of the previous civilisation is linked to a cosmic event that subsequently infused the environment with a powerful essense commonly known as Magic. Hints to this stem from the high levels of magical energy found at sites where these ancient structures stand.

The First Age of Titans

Humankind are the oldest known species on the planet, pre-dating even other sentient humanoids such as the Daemer, Dweman, Troljan and Homan. Theories suggest that the other races evolved due to the unique metamagical properties found across the world. There is no strong connection between the existence of less humanoid races such as the Kamehan, Dragonborn and Minotaur. The first age is best known for it's exploration of the planet, the diplomatic cooperation between the races and the legends regarding Titanic creatures aptly known as the Tyzan, or colliqually known as The Titans.

The Tyzan were a race of enormous, varied people who were capable of controlling vast amounts of magical power to manipulate the world around them. They were known both for their great acts of kindness and cruelty. Their overwhelming stature and power made them hard to relate to for the native populations who had to endure whatever whims they decided. By the end of the first age, the Tyzan simply disappeared, leaving nothing but the legends passed down by native ancestors and various buildings of immense size left behind.

The Second Age of Giants

During this age, individuals from races around the world began inheriting a biomagical trait causing gigantic growth which would be later known as Macrogenesis, becoming giant representatives of their own kind. Most regarded such a wonderous individuals as heroes and protectors worthy of worship. This age was also prone to exploitation as giants leveraged their size and power over nativefolk, benevolent giants were revered as capable protectors against such aggressors. For many it was the first time that sentient beings not only experienced the state of gianthood but also to relate to giants on a cultural level.

This relative peace would not last however, as a number of giants would attempt to lead a campaign to take over lands occupied by nativefolk, to rule over them as their superiors. This would result in the War of the Giant, setting the nativefolk and their loyal giant protectors to fight against and slay the rogue giants to restore piece to the Kingdom. The war resulted in many advances in Magic and Metasciences out of necessity and also bring about the reform of giantfolk and their place in society, to regulate their power and prevent another war from breaking out again. The end of the war and aftermath would be the end of the Second age.

The Third Age of Enlightenment

The Third age is currently the present age, with new innovations brought about by the War of the Giants and the peace it brought. Exploration and Trade began to boom as adventuring became more popular, to discover the last unexplored quadrants of the globe. Metascience has reached a point where emulating technology of the past is now possible and the demand for new discoveries and salvagable materials is at an all time high. People have been trying to expand out into the wilderness ever since.

The Giantkind Reform had been refined to grant Giants the freedoms of nativefolk but incur harsher penalties for crimes, minor or otherwise. Leading to the unpopular 'Lawful Giantkilling' sentence wherein a giant can be declared legal to kill if the crimes they commit were serious enough. Giants are now much more common than they were in the second age and one could find a handful of them in larger towns and cities and a couple every few smaller settlements.

Legends

Shooting Star's Parade

"Have you ever wondered why people wish on shooting stars? It's because the first time someone ever saw one, it came true"

Arcadia, the Other Side

"I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror one day, I stopped and turned towards it curiously, having not examined my face in some time I began to study it in great detail; am I still what I imagined myself in my own mind, or had the sands of time chipped away at my complexion once more? The longer I stared at my own face the more uncomfortable I felt, no longer was the thought of imperfections upon my mind but the uncanny disassociation of my own self-image. It is not until you have gazed deeply into your reflection that you realise how deeply it gazes into you."
