Macrogenesis
This article contains information based on a very old version of the game. If you are reading this in 2021, disregard everything below this line.
Macrogenesis is the term to refer to certain individuals of a race or species that exhibits incredible giant growth during their early years. It is explained as a special organ within the affected child that invokes and regulates their growth and development that other members of their species lack. Those with Macrogenesis average a height of 108ft or more. Affected individuals are simply known as 'Giants', there is no special culture surrounding them as giants from different species and cultures treat giants differently. Most regard giants as a double-edged blessing, ones with the power to help and protect their way of life, while others disregard them merely as troublemakers or liabilities.
The condition is an explanation to why people from any race, player or otherwise, can become giant-sized.
Player Characters: You are permitted to play as a Giant-class character but be aware of your limits and the culture surrounding your size. Check the Character Creation article on what to consider before doing so!
Biological Implications
Biomechanical benefits
Aside from gigantic size, biomechanically Giants are fit and healthy without medical issues, possessing a special organ that maintains their condition. With proper nutrition and exercise, most giants often display a high degree of strength and athleticism thought to be at peak levels according to species of the same size. Giants have no known negative impact on their mental capacities however circumstances can prevent them from accessing education. They are fully able to learn, think and adapt.
While giants often need to consume large amounts of food and water in order to survive, a metabolic control enables them to minimise the amount of nutrients in order to not starve. On average, a human Longstrider giant was found to feed comfortably on an amount of food equaling to 75 normal-sized meals per sitting. However a trial discovered that they could consume as little as 15 meals per sitting without much ill effect. When compared to a burlier Broadback their comfortable range was about 100 meals per sitting to as low as 20 meals per sitting. It showed that Giants can consume about 30% less food on average for their size.
Giant Archertypes and Proportions
Dependent on species, Giants can grow into the Broadback, Longstrider or mixed Broadstrider type. Broadback giants often have immense frames, thick muscles and bones to create the most leverage as possible at the cost of an excessively large physique, they are typically the strongest, heaviest and toughest of the Giantfolk. Longstrider types are the least encumbered with their tall, lean frames but possess the greatest mobility and reaction times of the giantfolk. The unusual Broadstrider type appears to bear traits of both types. A tall but heavy frame with greater emphasis greater arm and leg length, giving them the greater mobility of a Longstrider while retaining some of the raw power of their Broadback counterparts, while not excelling at either. Giants typically have enlarged hands and feet, elongated limbs and distinct facial/skull formation that differs from a member of their kind.
- The ratio of Male Broadback/Broadstrider/Longstrider Human Giants was found to be 45% Broadback, 25% Broadstrider and 30% Longstrider. Suggesting a bias towards the accumulation of mass.
- The ratio of Female BB/BS/LS Human Giants was found to be 30% Broadback, 20% Broadstrider, 50% Longstrider. Suggesting a bias towards the conservation of mass.
- Ratios for other races are incomplete but appear to show similar models. Male Daemer seem to have a greater bias for Longstrider meanwhile Troljan
Life Cycle
- Giant children typically grow to the size that is normal for Bigfolk races, which is unnatural for nativefolk. Bigfolk children with Macrogenesis generally grow bigger than their parents even as a child.
- From the early teens onwards, the individual grows into their pre-determined giant somatotype and attains an average height of 60ft by the time they are in their 20s.
- Giants tend to continue growing for the rest of their lives, however at a a very slow rate.
- Though Giants age, they appear to do so much more slowly than their base kin. A 223 years old giant human appeared to be in their 60s, and yet they were still physically fit and able. The oldest human giant lived to about 300, approximately 3.75x longer than a native human should live.
