Physical Description

Humans possess a wide variety of skin colours, body types, and facial features. Generally speaking, humans’ skin colour assumes a darker hue the closer to the equator they live. At the same time, bone structure, hair colour and texture, eye colour, and a host of facial and bodily phenotypic characteristics vary immensely from one locale to another. Appearance is hardly random, of course, and familial, tribal, or national commonalities often allow the knowledgeable to identify a human’s place of origin on sight, or at least to hazard a good guess.

Culture & Social

Humans possess exceptional drive and a great capacity to endure and expand, and as such are currently the dominant race in the world. Their empires and nations are vast, sprawling things, and the citizens of these societies carve names for themselves with the strength of their sword arms and the power of their spells. Humanity is best characterized by its tumultuousness and diversity, and human cultures run the gamut from savage but honourable tribes to decadent, devil-worshipping noble families in the most cosmopolitan cities. Humans’ curiosity and ambition frequently triumph over their predilection for a sedentary lifestyle, and many leave their homes to explore the innumerable forgotten corners of the world or lead mighty armies to conquer their neighbours, simply because they can.

Gameplay

The Human's Adaptive trait is a meta trait that takes advantage of the way level-ups work. Instead of having to assign points immediately upon level-up, between games, Human characters can keep points in escrow until such a situation where they can assign points to a specific skill, attribute or perk. They can pull stuff out of their asses basically. They still have to assign points before committing to rolls or checks but other than that, point-assignment is free.

The Talented trait is designed simply to give Humans a few more Perks in the early game to enhance their option-making, as well as room for creation traits they would otherwise have to give up a Perk point to obtain.

Roleplaying Suggestions

Honestly, Humans are better left unsaid. As fellow humans ourselves, we know what we're like better than anybody else. There are good ones, bad ones, and ones that walk the thin line of neutrality. But as Humans are also the rulers of the Cerulean Kingdoms, it could be said that Humans feel a small sense of entitlement, being the most prolific and influential of their time. However, the entitlement isn't entirely unjustified, as they were critical towards resolving the conflict of the Great War by allying with the cooperative giants and finally quelling the rogue faction.

Human adventurers would feel a call to destiny, or seek goals both material and moral. A distinct sense of 'purpose and meaning' to do something more dangerous and potentially rewarding than simply taking a job in the town or cities and live each day as relaxed as the last. As diverse as human beings tend to be in personality, motive and appearance, there's an even stronger sense of diversity to be found in the other races, to which some revel in the differences in mind and body as they go to discover new places, people and opportunities. Some humans tend to get very attached to races and creatures that aren't like themselves, sometimes the curiosity of understanding and experiencing another can be irresistible at times.

Race Meta

  • Humans average between 5 and 8ft tall, their size-rating is Medium (1).
  • Genus: Humanoid
  • Rarity: Common across Cerulean, uncommon everywhere else.
  • Faction: Cerulean
Humans are the most common and most relatable of all the races. Often the centre of every intrigue and drama, they may appear to be less fantastic than the other races, but they make up for it by being able to become good all-rounders and fantastic specialists. Humans get the most customization, from bonus character-build options and even traits that benefit an adaptive play style.
Humans are the best option to get into the game with the most customization options and least amount of quirks and gimmicks.

Racial Adjustments & Archetypes

Human

Humans are a diverse set of individuals who tend to be good at a lot of things, or become exceptional at one or few things. They are the most unpredictable when it comes to gauging their core strengths.

♦ Humans gain a total of 4 attribute points at creation, to distribute to any attribute scores they wish (max. +2 to any one attribute).
♦ Humans gain an additional Skill-Focus, this stacks with the Skill-Focus choice given during character creation.
♦ Humans are considered to be a Medium-sized race: they have a size rating of 1.

Traits

Passive: Resourceful

Humans are capable of adapting to situations that would otherwise have them trapped. Resourcefulness enables Humans to develop strengths and talents to adapt to the situation as it unfolds.

♦ Humans may keep attribute points, skill points and perk points unassigned from their previous level up and assign them at any point during a game before performing any actions or checks. Once assigned, those points remain assigned and cannot be changed.
♦ Normally: Characters may not be permitted to assign attribute points, skill points or perk points in the middle of a game and must assign all uncollated points at every level-up.

♦ The Human can only process one type of point assignment per round, meaning they can assign their attribute points but not combinations of attributes, skill and perk points together.
♦ Human characters can hold up to a maximum of 4 attribute points, 30 skill points and 2 perk points at any one time. Any surplus points must be assigned as per normal level-up rules.

Passive: Talent

Humans are good at developing new talents that can help them gain favours with others or get out of a sticky situation. A human adventurer develops some practical talents early on to help with their journey.

♦ Human characters gain a bonus Perk point or Trait during character creation (They must meet the requirement of Perks or Traits to take it).
♦ The Human character gain an additional Perk Point or non-creation Trait at 2nd and 4th levels.
