Perks refer to beneficial bonuses and abilities a Player-Character can obtain to give them an edge in battle or advantage in adventuring. Perks can be separated into two types: Universal Perks that are acquired at regular level-up intervals and Skill Perks which are bonuses tied to specific skills. Universal and skill perks are non-transferable between each other, however characters that achieve Master rank will be permitted to use Universal perk points to purchase missing Skill perks. Universal perks are also restricted in three tiers, with the first being immediately available and the other tiers requiring a certain amount of combined Universal and Skill perks in order to select them when purchasing perks.

List of Perks

The above link will take you to an article listing all available Universal Perks, for Skill perks, check Skill List instead.

Perk Types

Universal Perks

  • Characters gain a Perk-Point at 1st level, 2nd level and every two levels beyond 2nd. These are used to purchase Universal Perks 1 for 1.
    • Characters can also choose a Perk-Point at 5th level and every ten levels beyond 5th as a milestone reward.

Skill Perks

  • Characters gain Skill Perks after investing enough skill points to reach new Skill-Ranks (Every 20 points). Skill-Focuses and Skill points count towards unlocking new ranks and their Skill perks.
    • Read specific Skill entries to know whether you can pick a Skill Perk or if it is granted automatically per skill rank.

Perk Tiers & Restrictions

Tier 1
♦ Perks marked Tier 1 are free to purchase as early as 1st level.

Tier 2
♦ Perks marked Tier 2 are only available for purchase after obtaining a total of 10 Universal and Skill perks (combined).
♦ A Player character cannot select a Tier 2 perk if they are selecting their 10th perk, Tier 2 only unlocks AFTER confirming 10 universal/skill perks.

Tier 3
♦ Perks marked Tier 3 are only available for purchase after obtaining a total of 20 Universal and Skill perks (combined).
♦ As above, the Player-Character cannot select a Tier 3 perk if they are selecting their 20th perk, they must have confirmed 20 universal/skill perks.

Pathfinder / DnD 3.5 compatibility

Pathfinder / Dungeons and Dragons 3.5e feats can be used in exchange for Universal and Skill Perks. Skill perks must be relevant to the skill in question.

  • As Feats do not have Tiers, the following rules apply depending on your character's Perk access.
    • Feats with no prerequisite aside from Ability scores and Race can be obtained as Tier 1 perks.
    • Feats that require one other feat, but no more than one feat, can be obtained as Tier 2 perks.
    • Feats that require two or more other feats can be obtained as a Tier 3 perk.

It is recommended to check out the Pathfinder Wiki for looking up Feats unavailable in Viridian. As always, consult your GM before committing to feat choices.
