Movement is an action that Adventurers use to navigate the environment as well as the battlefield. The average movement speed/distance for an Adventurer is 6 steps (squares), or 30ft; the term 'step' is the official wording for distance but squares and 'feet' are also acceptable. Each step/square is 5ft in diameter.
Outside of combat, Adventurers move freely around the environment (with some exceptions) and do not need to track their movements unless directed by the Game-Master. Movement track would usually apply when 2 or more entities need to have their movement checked or compared. In battle scenarios, Adventurers can move a distance equal to their Movement property for free during their turn, and move further by spending Action-Points.
Movement is calculated in three steps (omitting bonuses and penalties): (Base Movement Speed
, Agility Boost
, Size Rating
)
In-Battle
Movement in battle has stricter rules on how far each Adventurer can move during their turn.
Base Movement
The Base Movement for an Adventurer is usually 6 steps. This value only changes if the Adventurer's Size is Small or Smaller.
Medium-sized Adventurers or Larger (Size 1+) have a base movement of 6 steps. Small-sized Adventurers (Size 0.7) have a base movement of 4 steps. Tiny-sized Adventurers (Size 0.4) have a base movement of 3 steps.
Agility Boost
The Adventurer's Agility attribute grants a bonus to the Adventurer's movement speed. The higher their agility, the more movement they get during their turn.
♦ Movement speed is increased by 1 step for each Agility point. > This extra movement can be used when spending Action-Points to extend movement. > This bonus is multiplied by the Adventurer's Size-Rating.
Size Modifier
For Adventurers with a Size-Rating of 2 or higher, their movement speed scales up appropriately.
♦ The Adventurer's movement speed is increased by 3 steps for each Size-Rating above 1. ♦ If the Adventurer is Small-sized, their base movement is reduced to 4 steps instead of 6. > If they are Tiny-sized, it is reduced to 3 steps instead of 6. > If their size is smaller than Tiny, their base movement is reduced to 2 or 1 steps.
Slow/Fast Movement
Some adventurers are naturally slow or fast moving in relation to normal creatures, this modifies multiple aspects of their speed.
Slow Movement
Heavier and bulkier Adventurers tend to move slower than their compatriots. These adjustments are NOT related to Load-Points or encumbrance, and are usually part of an immutable trait of the Adventurer themselves.
Slow Adventurers sometimes gain the ability to ignore encumbrance penalties to speed because of their slow speed, always check your Adventurer's traits for this information.
♦ Slow Adventurers have a base speed of 4 steps, instead of 6. 3 if Small-sized, 2 if Tiny-Sized. ♦ Slow Adventurers only gain 1 step of movement for every 2 Agility points, instead of 1. ♦ Slow Adventurers only gain 2 steps of movement for each Size-Rating above 1. Some Slow Races can ignore some of their encumbrance penalties to make up for being slower overall, always check their traits as this is not ubiquitous across all slow races.
Fast Movement
Taller, more agile Adventurers tend to move faster than their compatriots. Like Slow-Movement, this aspect is usually inherent within the Adventurer themselves, such as a trait.
To make it easier to calculate movement penalties due to Load-Point thresholds, a Fast Adventurer usually loses their Fast Movement
bonus if they are under the effects of Light-Load
but are not affected by Light-Load penalties. Heavy-Load and other encumbrance effects still apply.
♦ Fast Adventurers have a base speed of 8 steps instead of 6. If Small-sized, this becomes 6; if Tiny-Sized, this becomes 4.
♦ Fast Adventurers gain an additional step of movement for every 2 Agility points they own, this stacks with the inherent movement bonus granted by Agility.
♦ Fast Adventurers gain 4 steps of additional movement for each Size-Rating above 1, instead of 3.
Most Fast Races lose this Fast Movement
bonus if their encumbrance exceeds Light-Load or more. When this occurs, the effects of 'encumbrance' are usually NOT applied until they reach 'Heavy Load' and beyond.
